I have a 2006 f250 crew cab long bed that i use as a daily driver. I want to lift it so that i could clear 38-40's. I would be doing mild off roading at badlands in Attica Indiana. What lift, tires, and gears should I use.

a 6 inc lift will clear the 38s but not 40s, 8 inc of lift should clear the 40s fine as to what kind of lift well you can either stick to your radus arm suspension or go to the 4 link conversions, the radius arms are cheaeper but arn't the best suspension cuz of all the caster changes and other stuff associated with radius arms, the 4 link systems out for your truck right now are badass and if you can afford it you can go for a race coilover like KING or FoX or BILSTIEN or SWAY AWAY etc... this will turn your truck into a smooth rider on the street and will eat the bumps off road! plus they look way cool, as for gears it depends wheater you have the diesel or gas motor, but you should look arund 4:56-5:13s ratios, there are so many tire choices its not even funny it all depends on how much you can spend

5.13's minimum with 38 to 40's Forget a 4.56 or even 4.88.

Still you have to think about torque on drive line. It is no oblivious to it. Many never seem to consider this and boost power to make up for taller effective ratios and wind rubber bands tighter. Even with boosted PS, with 40's you want at least a 4.88.

well with the 38s i would do the 4:88s and with 40s the next ratio up, in general don't you want a taller gear ratio when working with diesels cuz of there limited rpm range? but with that 5 speed auto and 38 or 40 inc tires im sure he can't go wrong with either 4:88s or 5:13s

With the overdrive 4.88 is a good start. But with the turbo lag you might want 5.13. I run 40"s with a c-6 and nice 472 and my torque come on hard at idle and love my 4.56. Wish I could find a auto to work with my torque and 4speed reliable for abuse. Stick with the old c-6 for now good tranny. Easy to repair if needed and cheap compared to today's standard for tranny repair. Fabtech stuff is really cool products and really well thought out. Question is how much you want to spend!!!!!!! Cha ching.

I run 38.5 in thornbirds and I get plenty of torque and acceleration with 5.13.

Well you can't go wrong with the fabtech 4 link its a great suspension that will turn your superduty into one hell of a off road truck but it will be REALLY bad ass if you go with thier giant 4.0 coilover or even better put in KING SHOCKS 4.0 coilover in place of the fabtech shock and wow that will be all that and a bag of chips!! only problem is that the coilovers are expensive so with you 5k bugdet there probabley won't be any $ left over for gears, but the gears are really needed
