I just got a fairly decent 95 rodeo for 600.00 and planned on it being my first attempt at a trail rig. My question is this a capable trail rig or should i try to sell it and go with something with more of an aftermarket backing like a jeep. Also were can i get a lift for the rodeo

I am really not that familiar with the Rodeo's, but if I remember right there is independent suspension upfront and leaf springs in the rear...correct?  Not sure how much time and money you have..if you have neither, try to find a set of used mud terrains on craigslist or from a buddy for cheap and a locker for the rear or maybe weld the spider gears in the carrier, it's the cheapest form of a rear locker, but you lose your streetability. I would recommend building a set of rock sliders for the rocker panels or if you know a friend that can help build you a set it will save you some serious rock rash on the rocker panels, they can be a pain and expensive to replace!  You'll also want to protect the fuel tank. A hole in the fuel tank on the trail will not be good! Eventually, or maybe right away you'll want to do a solid axle swap for strength and flex out on the trail. You might be able to use an axle out of a Toyota and maybe some Chebby leaf springs. You'll have to do some research on the internet to see if anyone else has a forum on Rodeo solid axle swaps. If it was my vehicle, I would find some mud terrain tires, weld the rear axle, and run the snot out of it for a year to get the feel for wheelin' and then progress into a Jeep, or Scout, or something beefy with solid axles where you can have a decent platform to build off of, plus something with a lot of aftermarket parts availability. Hope this helps!

I'm curious....Let me know what you end up doing., It'll be interesting to hear back from you when you decide which route you end up taking on the Rodeo!!
