I am researching options for dealing with the fact that my 1983 CJ7 has failed to pass smog for the first time. It has 130,000 HARD miles on it, and is still running the original factory engine (258 six) and drive train (T5 manual tranny) - all unopened. One option under consideration would be to replace the engine and drive train in the CJ, possibly with a newer model engine with EFI.

Would appreciate any pointers, advice, etc. on the advantages, pit falls, etc. of the two options I'm considering. Of course recommendations on additional options would be greatly appreciated.
