I have a 700 R4 in a 4-wheel drive S-10 Blazer, would like to know if the tail shaft will interchange with a 2-wheel drive tail shaft,(or vice versa) if not what could be done? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

You do not want to do this. 2wd trannies have a weaker case because 4x4 trannies have to control Tcase counter torque (they keep Tcase from twisting out of car in 4lo). It is easy to tell 2wd and 4wd trannies apart. 2WD version has a stamped steel lower torque converter cover while 4wd version has a cast one and these covers will not inter change between model. While you could swap tail shafts, you could have a very bad day if you break tranny housing for Tcase torque. To me it is not worth the gamble. You might find a 2wd tranny with a cast cover and if so you could swap tail shafts otherwise do not risk it.
