Well you can actually believe it or not pull amotor straight out of a 1971 Chevrolet product and drop it right in to a 1987 blazer all it requires are a few minor chenges such as the oil pressure sending unit if applicable some had it and others didnt. Other changes are sometimes the distributor due to a different style plug- in as well as minor little sending units which technicallt are not always needed unless you really want your gauges to read, temp sending unit, oil pressure, voltage, and sometimes tachometer. Other than that drop it in, bolt it up and have fun. I am not just into jeeps, however i own six cherokees, i also have 43 1967- 1972 chevy and gmc pickups so i have a little experience with chevy products, for only being 20 yrs old and currently serving in Iraq. Before i left I had just finished dropping a 327 small block out of a 1967 c10 pickup into my grandpas 1984full size blazer like i said minor changes and voila its in and running. have fun and good luck.

Well bolting it in is easy but a 87 in TBI fuel injection and 86 back is carb. Personally I would not want to go back to a carb on a 87. You could transplant TBI to 71 motor but it would not run much better because TBI motor has higher CR than 86 back smog motors and likley the same as 71 nova motor. You can wake a 350 TBI motor up if you stop feeding it 87 octane fuel and advance base line timing to about 8 BTDC. Also, 71 motor has soft valves and seats because it was expecting leaded fuel. Detroit did not upgrade valves and seat until 73. An finally, that 71 motor is not going to like 87 octane and since you would have to burn better fuel you might as well do it with current motor re-timed.

On those heads make sure you have mounting holes on heads for accesories like alternator and powersteering type stuff. Lots of those older heads do not have these holes in head, verify they will work for your situation. Been their done that.

Yes this is a very good point. Particularly the alternator mounting.
