I have A '75 International Scout w/ a 196 Inline 4. I am trying to figure out If it is orth it and how much work would go into the swap to get everything right and sound.

A MUCH simpler route here would be to swap in a IH 345 or 392 as it will bolt right in. The 196 is one half of a 392 (they cast half the block with same bell housing) 392 only came in a 4 bbl version and was known for great low and mid range torque. 345's could be 2 or 4 bbl but usually 2 bbl.
