I'm the recent owner of a 1976 CJ7, 258 w/auto tranny. Pretty much a basket case but coming along fairly well.Anyone else experienced problems with the YF carb? No matter what I do it still seems to have a little rough idle.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You might star by checking for vacuum leaks (assuming you did a compression test and motor itself is healthy as they were know to burn valves and blow head gaskets on occasion)

Thanks! Compression checks out good, replace all the vacuum lines including the ones going to the Quadratrac, oil looks good no indication of head gasket problems. Someone told me you could drill out the jets or venturi on the YF and that would eliminate the rough idle issue, after rebuilding it still smells like it's running rich.

Try putting a old fashion vacuum gauge on it and see what it says and if it is steady or not. It can tell you a lot about a engine sometimes.

Thanks, I'll try that. I know the vacuum lines on that model were notorious for leaking going to the Quadratrac due to heat causing them to crack. I appreciate your help!

BTW, I have owned a 79 J20 with Qtrac for over 23 years now. It is a very rare beast today. Still all stock.

What I've seen so far I like. Was a little concerned about the aluminum housing at first, have you ever considered going back to lockout hubs? I understand there is a conversion kit to do so.

Let me tell you that I plowed snow with that truck for many years and never had 2 cents of trouble with Tcase and that truck worked hard at it too at times. (harder than "wheeling") There was some times when I had chains on all four tires and a ton of ballast in bed and was plowing out long country lanes in 2 to 3 feet of snow pushing in lo ranges for all it was worth and then some and spinning all four chained tires as well at times. It never broke anything which kinda surprised me looking back on it as I would be afraid to push a new 4x4 that hard. Still has original drive chain in Tcase to and it is still within limits last time I checked it. I did change fluid in Tcase about every 15 or 20 K miles which is very important in a full time Tcase. I even have a few spare Qtrac Tcases here but never needed them. (I have a fully rebuilt one on shelve that I plan to use when I restore truck one day)

Sounds like they're pretty durable, I hope I have the same results on this one as you have had. Have already changed the fluid in the tcase, put it on the schedule for every 12k. I appreciate your help!
