I just put a MSD Off-Road ignition in my truck with a 350, should I increase the rate of advance with some springs and bumpstops?

Depending on cam, CR and fuel octane in use as it would determine how fast to bring curve up and what its total limit should be. Generally a stock SB with proper fuel for it CR likes about 38 degrees of total advance (static and mechanical) by about 3800 RPM or a bit less.

O.K. thanks for the info. Also, how can I find out my compression ratio, are stock 350's all the same? I don't think they are, so I wanted to know the proper method for finding the ratio without taking the engine apart.   Thanks again!

It is pretty easy to figure out CR based on engine model year. Using 87 octane will limit total advance too.
