I own a daihatsu F20, this was a small vehicle slightly larger than a Suzuki, but with far more off road capability. this came with a 1.6 litre petrol unit and produced 65 horsepower, it was short and therefore extremely good off road, especially in small spaces.
This was modified with a home designed and built drivetrain and suspension, this lifted the vehicle 6 inches and allowed it to run 33 inch tyres. The engine was a GMC 6.5 diesel unit from a UK breakers who specialised in american vehicles, this produced 150 horsepower, but was supercharged to produce 290 horsepower, and installed in the vehicle.
This was phenominal off road and nothing around could catch the vehicle.

Depends on what you call a Rocky, it is called the Fourtrak in Europe, and is diesel powered bu a 2.8 Litre turbo diesel.
In some parts of the world it was called a Rocky, but in others only petrol (gasoline) were called Rockies.
Toyota own a large stake in Daihatsu, the 2.8 diesel was an old Toyota lump developed, but never used, so given to Daihatsu, Toyota axles were fitted as were a lot of other Toyota parts bin components.
Petrol Rockies were powered by 1.6 litre petrol engines straight from the Toyota cars, some were designated with a suffix C on their engine identification, this denotes a low compression version which was designed for commercial vehicles and had good low end torque. The 1.6 litre came in carburettor and fuel injected versions of the same engine, and if it is running poorly look an the ignition amplifier mounted on the inner front wing (fender)as these should connect to the body. Corrosion reduced the earth path to the body, so removal and cleaning the rust from the panel, and oxidation from the case is all that is required.
One other engine was used, this was the 2 litre petrol, it was only used in fuel injected form, but suffers from the same ignition amplifier problems.

Check "daihatsu drivers club" website in the UK, it is a mine of information and help for these vehicles.
