Nope. It can't be done.
The only way that a Ranger can be converted from 2wd to 4wd is if it is either a Trailhead, Edge, or Sport. Basically it has to have the torsion bar suspension. Your coil sprung XLT has a completely different suspension than a 4wd Ranger.
Your best bet is to sell it and buy a 4wd.

Sure it can if you don't mind some welding and fabrication... Throw a D44 frontend from an '80s Jeep Wagoneer under there and convert it that way. You'll still need a 4WD transmission and transfercase though.
But I would agree that it would definitely be easier to sell the 2WD and get one that's already 4WD.

Well now if we're talking SAS then it's simple. If you can fab that is.
You'll just need the T-Case (get a 1354M and don't worry about the electronics) and the tailshaft from a 4wd version of your trans, bolt all that up then toss a solid axle (Waggy 44 is a GREAT choice as was mentioned) and you're good to go.
But as far as swapping to a 'stock' 4wd, not possible with your 2wd XLT.
