This may have already been addressed but I am not able to find it. I have a 1994 GMC 1500 4x4., 350 with 4L60E. Trans. was rebuilt less than 5000 miles ago by reputable shop. It sat for 6 months or more after this. I am now driving it again and when I take off it will wind out hard in low than I have to let off on it while it shifts into 3rd and that is where it stays. If I go slow it will drop back into low but no other gear. What gives here. Would really appreciate any help here.
Thanks

You need to scan for tranny codes. That tranny is ECM controlled and it could have a bad solenoid or you might check connectors on tranny too.

I will get the tranny scanned tomorrow and let you know what I find. I Just purchased the truck and was told it had been in water over the tranny once before parking it. This may be a clue. Thanks

While its in the shop have them service the trans. Just don't let them flush it. That will create more problems than what you could dream of.

Codes came back that the Shift Solenoids are bad but I am also taking the advice on having the transmission serviced. No indication that any water got in the trans. but better safe than sorry. I will let every one know how it all turns out.
Thanks

OK. Got the truck back today but same problem. Great first gear, third and OD but no second. Just skips over it. It even drops from OD to 3rd and back when needed. Must wind out and then let off for it to shift to 3rd. Both A&B solenoids replaced but same problem. When the pan was dropped it was dark but not bad and nothing in the pan.

Need to check connectors and wiring to tranny because if they are bad, the solenoids will read bad to ECM.

Bad news. I check all the connections and then took the truck on a trip. 200 mile there and back. Started dropping out of OD when I hit a bump and then just for no reason. Back to the shop for more Diag. and discovered the 2-4 band is out. Seems to be a common problem with these tranny's. I am wondering if I could just replace the band as all the rest of the tranny only has 5000 miles on it.

Is the shop standing behind its work because if it was rebuilt the band should not be going bad already unless you have really big tires and stock gears and are cooking tranny. BTW, jumping out of OD on a bump supports the theory that you have a bad connection somewhere in the harness controlling tranny.

The band being out is what the shop said but I have driven it today and it goes right into OD and stays there until I slow down or hit a bump. This truck is completely stock except for a 4 inch lift in Body and flowmaster exhaust. Tire are 265 75 R16 on rally wheels. Factory gears. Is there an adjustment on the band for this?

I still think you have a electrical connection problem in harness going to tranny or at ECM. You might check your chassis to engine/tranny grounds and ECM ground too.

I have the feeling you are correct. I will check all wiring and grounds in the AM and let you know what I find.

Checked all the connections and they are good. Took the truck on a trip today and it stayed in OD all but a couple of times on bumps. I may have found the problem. I need feed back and a diagram to be sure. I took another look at the shift solenoids and on the 1-3 when I took it out it had pressure on it from a spring but when I took out the 2-4 solenoid there was no tension at all. If there is a spring on the valve it may be broken. Does anyone have a picture of these valve assemblies showing the springs and all?
Thanks

I found that there is no spring tension on the 2-4 shift valve so I am back to square one. I have read on other site those with the same problem and they ended up replacing the second band and even some clutches. It would seem that if this drum and band controls both 2 and OD that OD would not work but it does and after a short warm-up in the mornings it works good all day. I guess it is time to pull the tranny and tare it down.

Hi everyone,
I need help with my project. I'm building an international travelall. A good friend did the lift and we put 38 inch tires. I have a dana 44 in front and dana 60 in the rear and I have a 350 chevy motor for it. Here is where I'm having difficulty deciding. I have a 460le tranny with transfer case attached that I can use but I've heard this tranny/t-case set up is not the best. I'm planning on doing mild trails nothing too crazy. I have a 400 tranny with no t-case, I would have to buy a np205 for it or something like that. The question is do you guys believe that the 460le tranny/t-case will be fine or it would be better for me to use the 400 tranny and look for the np205 t-case? Your input it's greatly appreciated, I'm new at 4x4 and I want to do it the right way but of course I don't want to spend money if I don't have to. Thanks.
