In my efforts to solve my problem with the 4L60E I have discovered that these transmissions all have weak points, second and OD. I have also discovered that gearing and building a tranny for the job your using it for makes a world of difference. A stock tranny is Ok for what it was intended for, "most of the time." But if you plan on using it for anything else, Plan on spending money to build everything to handle it. Snowman gives some good advice on this and some insight into gearing and tire size. Hope this helps. Do some research before you spend the bucks.

After stepping away from this problem for a while i finally jumped in and tore the tranny down. Clutches were fair but replaced all the clutches and the second band along with the servo. Problem was solved. I recommend that if anyone rebuilds one of these to replace the band with a heavy duty version even if they plan only to drive on the road. A better servo is also recommended. A few bucks now will save a lot of head aches later. Most tranny shops do not go the extra mile so if you can do it yourself, do so.
