Well a 2.8 was never used in a 76 so it was put in. As far as what will bolt up to tranny, any 2.8, 3.1 or 3.4 small V6 will bolt right in and a bigger 4.3 V6 will bolt to it to (as will a GM 350) A GM 150 cyl iron duke will bolt in to as will a AMC 151 4 cyl as well.

Hi everyone,
I need help with my project. I'm building an international travelall. A good friend did the lift and we put 38 inch tires. I have a dana 44 in front and dana 60 in the rear and I have a 350 chevy motor for it. Here is where I'm having difficulty deciding. I have a 460le tranny with transfer case attached that I can use but I've heard this tranny/t-case set up is not the best. I'm planning on doing mild trails nothing too crazy. I have a 400 tranny with no t-case, I would have to buy a np205 for it or something like that. The question is do you guys believe that the 460le tranny/t-case will be fine or it would be better for me to use the 400 tranny and look for the np205 t-case? Your input it's greatly appreciated, I'm new at 4x4 and I want to do it the right way but of course I don't want to spend money if I don't have to. Thanks.
