2001 1500 OFF ROAD PACKAGE AXLE HOUSINGS.

I have an 01 1500 quad cab sport off road edition pickup and i was wondering what kind of axle housings it has. the front just does not look the same as other 4wd housings under other dodges of the era.

It should be a Dana 44.

Sometime around 01 or 02 Dodge went to a IFS setup in front of LD trucks. Either you have this based on a 8 inch "pig" with half shafts and CV's or you have a solid axle.

it is a solid front axle but looking at the case it is not your typical "oval" appearance but it seems to be alot more built up for about 6-8 inches on either side of the carrier. I have owned the truck since new and have always been a little curious on the matter. The only time i have seen this is on the off road package.

For the off road package dodge welded extra metal around the houseing to make it stronger
