frame cracks

I finally persuaded my uncle to give up his '85 K10 and have been putting it back together.  I found the rear shock studs had broken loose and wallowed out the holes, cracking the frame in 3 different directions.  I stop-drilled all of the cracks (that I could see) and welded them on both sides.  Is this a common failure on this frame and is there something else I should do about it?  I'm not severly beating this truck up, but I use it to hunt and fish in the Natl. forest in some areas that require a chainsaw and do bottom it out from time to time.  Any input would be helpful.  Thanks.

Sounds like it was lifted and longer shocks were installed and rear suspension stops were not extended so it was bottoming shocks out and cause failure of mounted studs.
