have 2005 dodge 2500 4x4 heavy duty..diesel with a quadzilla chip on it.
stock came with the smaller LT245/70R17 BFG rugged trail..
great for hwy and dear lease..  but when it comes to the beach.. well.sink
needed a spare found great deal on LT265/70R17 BFG Rugged trail again.. almost new $100 for a complete set... then 2 michilin x for spares..
was ready to drop some coin for some BFG KO's 35 or 37.. but been reading and been worried about some of the tires just do not hold up well at all and it does not matter what brand tire either..
I love  the KO's have them on my chevy 2 wheel drive.. run 32's not problem, run great on the soft sand.. but no longer my primary beach vehicle  now hunting..

If any of you are familiar with fishing in Texas.. Big shell..PINS - 65miles of 4x4 to the end of the road at Mansfield Jetties.

Now this is not an everyday vehicle anymore, mostly hwy miles or, rough back deer hunting country and mostly -- the beach in areas that I have seen several vehicles get eaten up by the surf.. towed one 65 miles back to national headquarters,it was still draining water...

A buddy of mind has a 2004 dodge 4x4 and runs either 32 or 33's.. cant remember, he does great but is his everyday work vehicle and didnt want bigger tires because of previous issues..

Any advice from first hand experience or recomendations pro's/con's.
I have heard that the taller tires, rotations, balance, allignments every 3months..

I want the widest possible tire track for the beach, tallest tire possible with the least draw backs period.. i work hard for my money and rather spend it on fuel beer and bait, not tires every year and other mechanical breaks that will leave me stuck in middle of nowhere.

thanks in advance..

I would not place much hope in making it a nice beech machine. That big heavy CTD that you like so much is not a good thing to have in sand where weight is not a asset. Luckly you do have a 03 or later models so your front axle can safely handle 33 or 35 with no problems at all even with your engine.

yup.. extra weight is not good on the mushy areas.. but fuel comsumption is a champ even in 4x4 low.. currently i air down the tires abuch exspecially if the rear end starts to hop.. i will just  stop and drop it down to 40 and 20# if it is really bad.. .. after everything i can find.. might just go with the 33's at least can still get them in bfg's  E' class tires. but boy,it would look sweet in 35's but do not want the distruction large tires cancause on tranny and everything else

Well for what it is worth, if you want to do 35's your axles can handle it and if you regear axles a step or so deeper it will reduce strain on tranny and get you close to original overall effect gear ratio. I am glad to see that you have a "eye' on tranny strain from big tires as many never give it a second thought or remotely consider the extra drive line torque if you do not regear with big tires. Since you have a AAM 9.25 solid axle in front (which uses same gears as GM 9.25 IFS) and a AAM 11.5 in rear (which GM has used since 2001 behind 8.1's and Dmaxs) you will have no trouble getting a good price on high quality after market gears for your truck if you choose to regear it. A 4.56 should play well with 35's on that truck and have a good RPM at cruise in OD and reduce tranny strain too.
