I need help!

I recently received a very cheap 1988 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4(360-4 speed) from my brother. I was siiting in a farmers field for about 2 years before we towed it home and I began to work on it. With a little "know-how" and new battery and starter I got the thing running only to find a seriously loud whining coming from either the tranny (which I think is a NP 435 or 445) or t-case. In 1st thru 3rd the whine is so loud I cannot hear anything esle. in fourth, it disappears. With the clutch in coasting, no whine. I checked both the tranny fluid and the t-case and they are full of juice. Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing a throw-out bearing, but I want to double check before I unbolt the heavy son-of-a-gun and wrestle with it all weekend.Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Matt

try checking the clutch itself it may have something to do with that.

When you do the clutch in coast do you leave the tranny in gear or do you take it out of gear? But from what you have described so far I think it could be i the clutch assembly also. What kind of whine is it? Is it a high pitched steady whine or a low pitched one? Does it whine even when you take your foot off the throttle in 1st thru 3rd gears, or is it only when power is applied?
