When I got the truck last week. It drove perfect, Shifted great, and ran just excellent. NOW all of a sudden when i try to shift into 3rd it grinds, but if i just lightly apply pressure it will fall into place just fine. So i decided to just take it easy. Now it grinds the same with 3rd but also with 1st, but very seldomly with 1st.  I dont' beleive its the clutch cause it doesn't slip. I'm thinking the arm that pulls the clutch plate.(I have no idea what its called) Its got a hydraulic clutch. I checked the fluid. its full. I AM PUTTING THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. so thats not it. There is firm pressure in the clutch. Any clues Please help. IF you need to know anything to help diagnose the problem, feel free to ask.

Could it possibly be the clutch is warn? Or is it just me? I've had a 1991 mitsubishi eclipse that did the same thing with 3rd but no other gear. I've had a 1986, and 1989 ford f 150 that didn't grind at all. (all manual by the way)

You might bleed clutch circuit and make sure it is fully releasing and change fluid in tranny if you have not done so already. Many never even change this fluid.

Did you wind the 'clipse up in 2nd and bang it in to third. It may be the synchreoizers in those gears are bad .Try double clutching.Heres how it goes. When you reach the top of first gear quickly shift to neutral and let the cluct out. Then shift back into gear and so on.Down shifting is the oppy. You shift in to neutral and then slightly rev it to bring you tranny up to speed .Oh yeah let off the gas when you up shift. If it goes away you have bad synchreoizers.
Also the reason I told you how to dc is because a lot of people dont know how to do it.That all .

so thats all double clutching is? Ur right i didn't know how to double clutch. I have one ? You said "If it goes away you have bad synchreoizers." Your talking about the grinding right. I would also like to mention that the trans is fairly new. I found the paperwork in the glove box for a rebuilt trans for that truck.

Yep,it should go away. You dont even need to get them replaced you can just double clutch. It should go into gear a lot easyer to since you said you had to put a little bit of force on the shifter to get it to go into gear.

I'm suspecting it's the fluid in the trans.

For some reason Ford decided to push Mercon V ATF as a replacement for all Mercon (non-V) applications, but I think the stuff is just too slippery for the synchros in the M5OD to work properly (same is true for GM with Dextron too).

You might try changing the trans fluid and see if it helps.
Look for bottles that say "Dex/Merc" or "Domestic Vehicle ATF". It will say it meets the specifications for "Mercon" fluid on the bottle, and is what your truck calls for if it has the M5OD.
