i have a 1989 F-150 XLT 4x4. I have another project going on at the same time as this so i am on a tight budget. i was to do a S.A.S. without spending much money. i have looked at the 73-79 front axle assembly and it looks like it would be an almost direct bolt in. i know the front crossmember will have to be cut but thats not a problem. i have a fullshop at my dispose, just not the wallet. any suggestions or advise would be greatly appriciated.

Simple answer is no, it will not just bolt in. But if you have a fab shop at your disposal anything is possible.

broncograveyard.com sells some kits that will work. All you need is a '70's Dana 44 from a F-150. They will also lift it 6"- 10" depending on which one you choose.

I put a '78' Dana 44 under my '93' f150 and it wasn't too bad. All I can say is measure and re-measure. You are gonna want to make sure you get the axle in square. You will also want to make sure you get some good frame braces. You'll want gussets anywhere you think you might need them. It's better to spend a little extra time now and make sure it's tough before you find out it wasn't tough enough! I fabbed up a 10" for mine when I did the swap. It all depends on how much lift you want to put on. Your gonna have alot of welding, grinding and time wrapped up in it. If you have a complete shop at your disposal, take advantage of it, it's worth it to get rid if the IFS junk.

I put a 79 Dana 44 under my Bronco II and removed the TTB front suspension. I had to remove the stock spring buckets and used James Duff early Bronco buckets and 5.5" Wild Horses Early Bronco springs. I made my own radius arm mounts but you can use the stock ones from a 79 if you get them too. I used all 1 1/4" .250 wall DOM tubing and 7/8" hiems for the steering. Overall, it wasnt that hard and well worth the work in the end.
If I had to do it over again, I would of extended my radius arms longer for more flex. Maybe down the road I will pull them off and extend them. Good Luck!
