I need to know towing capacities for my 01 1500hd LS shortbed 4x4. I think I've got a 3.73 rear and I have the 6.o. I am thinking about putting a 5th wheel hitch in the truck, but I'm not sure how much weight I can put on the truck. Any suggestions on where I could go to find this info would be appreciated.

A 1500HD has same suspension as a 2500HD. Same engine and tranny too. It is a 1500 in name only. A bigger concern is bed length because if you have a real short box you may not be able to position hitch properly for a travel trailer. (centered over axle) How much you can effectively tow otherwise kinda depends on were you plan to tow it and the terrain you will tow on. Factory ratings tend to be over generous at times.

in 01 chevy only had 2 bed options 8' long box and 6'+ short box so he may be able to put 5th wheel plate or even more fesable a 5th wheel ball between the wheels chevy came out w/the really short 5'5" box in 05 so that wouldnt work...dont even know why they did that, sounds like a BIG WASTE OF MONEY to have 3 box options! nowonder theyre doing so crappy in the money making dept.

1500 HD never had a 8 foot box, It had about a 4.5 foot box and a 6 foot or so box only and was only available as a CC too.

1500HD is crew cab 6' box. chevy never made a 4'5" box for their full size pups. and the k1500 in crew cab form was in 5'5" flavor.I worked for a chevrolet dealer for 6yrs from 01-07. so you have 3 box choices on chevy model pickups...8', 6', and 5'5" to be clear....6' on 1500HD crew cab and 5'5" on 1500 crew cab

I camp a lot and i have seen fth wheels in 1500's a few times, cant remember if short or long bed.  now far as the weight not sure, i have seen HD's towing big 5th wheel campers and they are over 10,000LBS. i got a short bed and i have taken measurments to see if i could go with 5th wheel camper and it is real close. sharp turn gets to close for comfort to cab. goosenecks u should b good ,(weight will be the factor there) i tow a 10,000lb travel trailer with my 1500 4x4, my truck dont sag at all, i suppose its the lift kit when they added lift springs, made it stroger.  go to a camp ground and see the different set ups on other guys trucks and ask ??? them folks are cool and don't mind helping when it comes to things like that.  if you go to a camper dealer they will just try to make a dollar of you.  Good luck!!!!

look at the door plate on the drivers side door or door frame. it will list what you are looking for.

True. Find the GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating) and subtract the actual truck weight (with fuel, driver, passengers, and any gear to be stored in it) and that will give you the actual tow rating.
