Howdy - I just returned to Michigan from Chicago, I was towing my jeep 4 wheels down behind the RV (60 - 65 mph).
I did not quite get the 4WD lever to Neutral so I am pretty sure i towed it 250 miles in 4WD Hi.
Its a 1999 TJ 4cyl 5 spd - I had the shifter in Neutral.
It smells a bit like overheated fluid.
Got any thoughts on what might need replacing ? Parts or fluids ?

Why would you not just go ahead and replace the t-case and tranny fluids? Seems like cheap insurance to me. Burnt fluid will cause more problems in the long run. You should be able to change t-case and tranny fluid for less than $30, whereas new t-case ot tranny would cost considerably more. Just my $.02 .

I would change the fluids also. The transfer case has an oil pump in it to lubricate it when being towed in neutral the trans does not. The transfer case will be fine but you might have cooked the tranny. Good Luck Dave
