I recently rebuilt my 22r in my 85 Yota, now it won't run right, if you punch the gas, or steadily increase the gas, it will bog down and hesitate, then sputter and eventually either stall or come close to it.  It does it in drive and in park.  It has an '83 22r, 5-speed tranny 4x4, oh and also it has a rochester 2 barrel carb on it.  And the funny thing is that it ran great w/ the rochester, that is until i spun a rod bearing pulling a 3/4 dodge out of a deep mud pit.  The truck was originally a 22re fuel injected, but the previous owner for some stupid reason ripped it out and everything else with it, except the ignition module, and left the computer in it.  PLEASE HELP ME

If it ran great before, then more than likely something went wrong during the rebuild. What, would be hard to say. Maybe timing chain or distrib is off, a vac leak, ...

hmm, almost sounds like some sort of fuel/air problem. what all was done to the engine before he dropped it in? anything? if not, then i would have to say that something isnt right with the air/fuel mixture. too much fuel, too lil air. something like that. if not, then there is and erattic spark, coil or something.

you know what i thought about air fuel spark to be the first things, but everything checked out, then it hit me everything ran great before i did the rebuild, but why, then i thought well engine had about 216,000 on it, the carb had god knows how many miles on it, but rebuilding the engine and carb may have put things way too out of wack, it is possible that dirt grease oil etc, may have blocked off some sort of air leak, possible not enough gas was going through the carb to run a V8, but worked well for the 4 banger. I think i am going to just go over everything for the 100th time and see if there is anything i missed, wish me luck

guess what, i picked up another used rochester 2 jet carb closely related to the one i have, bolted in right on, never touched it, didnt rebuild it, never made any adjustments, nothing, and it fired right up and ran perfect, i guess the problem was either when i rebuilt the carb i somehow must have screwed it up, or when i rebuilt it, it made the carb too much for the truck to run good, cause when i originally put it on it was used and never rebuilt, so problem solved with running, now i just have to replace master cylinder, rebuild front knuckles, and a few other things, thanks for all the advice.
