How about hood louvers?

We seem to have all sorts of auxiliary cooling added to our transmissions, steering systems, etc. The one thing that I rarely see even among the high dollar rigs are hood louvers.

What is the group consensus on installing openings on the hood to vent out more engine heat especially during low vehicle speeds?

Have you seen the RunCool Hood Louvers that RaceAce has?

I have seen XJ guys use home a/c duct vents, Marine vents, but most use vents from other vehicles. Lebaron vents seem to be popular as they seem to flow with the XJ hoodlines. For a CJ/YJ/TJ/JK you dont have quite a much flat hood area so your mounting options are a bit more limited. I have only seen a few hoods that are truly louvered as most people prefer to take a cheaper route.

I've seen it done on quite a few Jeeps.

There was research somewhere that hood vents don't really do much, but I have no clue where I saw that or if it was even legit.

The way I look at it though is the more air you can move though the engine bay the better, so go for it!

Gen-Rite sells hood vents for Jeeps . I live near Las Vegas, Nevada and we Jeep in 100 plus degree weather. They do work to relieve the heat under the hood. I have an 89 wrangler and purchased another cowl vent cover just like the one in front of the windsheild cut 2 4x4 in holes in the hood just in front of the cowl on the hood and mounted the vent cover with a scoop facing towards the rear. It is about 30 degrees cooler under the hood now.

How does that reflect on engine temp?
