I am struggling with fully understanding why all the jeepers are telling me that my indy suspension is no good for open trails. I'm able to keep up with them on everything except the hill climbs on the novice courses. On the expert courses I go slow and don't do the climbs due to the AWD/AdvanceTrac. I have no desire to crawl. My indy suspension is much more comfortable then my Toy or Jimmy? I do understand that it's more likely to break due to the amount of hardware used.
Next can I add spacers to my coil spring lift since I can't find a body lift for the Escape?

Honestly? keep that escape on the road and go have fun with a really trail rated vehicle like your toyota 4x4 (it is 4x4 right?) unless you like to be towed and broken on every trail and you like to feel frustrated ´cause you didn´t make it up the hill

that was great input. I know the Escape isn't a real worthy off-roader and I agree 100%. For open trails it's pretty fast, with semi comfort w/o getting jarred with every rock/divot/bump, etc. If I want to climb or crawl I'll just jump in a jeep and be a spotter in the club or take the Toy out that particular day. As stated earlier this is a slow project and it will be fun fabbing all the exterior parts up. So far the coolest thing has been the frame stantions or support strengtheners. in the far far future I want to either put solid front and rear axles with a D44 and 32 or 33's or go totally old school pre-runner like my Jimmy. Now if somebody would answer the original question that would be helpful.

Umm... maybe.
Obviously there is a limit to how far you can go preloading the springs. By putting a lift coil on it you have already pushed the suspension down, losing down travel. Adding a space to this will just make it worse. You are going to get to the point of diminishing return. At some point you will start to see accelerated ball joint wear, steering wear, CV joint wear, and start having part failures more frequently. Along with a pretty horrid ride.
So short answer, yes you can. Long answer, don't do it, the consequences won't be worth it.

I am trying to have some rear shocks built and some front struts built through Ellis racing or Rons -Off-Road. I've not heard back from Walker Evans in Corona. Do you happen to know of any other custom shock designers that actually build to meet the the vehicles needs? So far I have been offered 179 for each rear shock. Sounds fair to me since they have to design the whole shock. I have decided to leave the suspension as is until I win the lotto or until Ford comes out with another "Bronco" If I win the lotto I will have the sweet pre-runner 4X4.

Started putting a set of Rancho RS 9000 rear shocks on the escape Friday. Have to rebuild the bottom bolt and spacer system used on the '08 rear suspension. Should have it finished by Wed..
