BFG Mud Terrains or Goodyear MT/R?

Need new tires for my daily driver/weekend warrior. I do a lot of highway driving since I live 130 km from town, but I live off the beaten path surrounded by gravel and muddy trails with a lot of clay mixed in. My BFG All Terrains didn't cut the mustard and it's time for new rubber. I'm torn between the BFG mudders and the Wrangler MT/R's. Which is the superior all around tire? I don't want a lot of road noise but I want to be able to get through the slick stuff.

They're for my '04 Liberty.

Both are good tires, but for that I would run the BFG for sure.

Thanks. I'll try them. Hopefully they're a little more versatile than the Kumho mud terrains I had on my little truck.

which mud tire, the KM or the KM2s? a buddy of mine had the KMs on his 2001 TJ and the didnt have too much road noise for how aggresive the tire was.

sorry to thread jack here, but how bout the goodyear with kevlar vs bfg km2? which do you think is the best bang for your buck. i noticed all the UA rigs were running them and by the looks of things, they did well

I run 33" KM2's on my K5 and a buddy of mine runs the new MT/R's with Kevlar.  Both are good in the mud, but the KM2 does better in deep sand.  The BFG floats on top while the MT/R tends to dig in.  While climbing loose shale or rocks covered with gravel or sand, the MT/R's tend to envelope the rocks a bit better than the BFG's.  The sidewall seems to be a bit more flexible.

It depends on what you're going to use them on/for. For the original poster that wanted a smaller tire to run on his Liberty I would say the BFG is still the way to go. Is less aggressive, quieter on the street, and will give a more comfortable ride.

Now for the guy with a trail rig looking to a great mud/rock/dirt tire the MT/R is the way to go. I've got a set of my truck and absolutely love them, but I don't drive it on the street all that much.

Well, I was going to go with the BFGs. I traded my Liberty in on a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited yesterday. Right now I'm running BFG Snow Slalom tires on it. Lots of snow up here right now and they got me through a 400 km stretched out snowstorm already. I'm thinking in the spring I'll invest in some BFG KM2's. The BFG AT's I was running on the Liberty lasted a long while and were pretty good for what I used them for. I'll likely be a BFG guy until somebody manages to convince me otherwise.
