Truck runs great has pro comp tires 33's pro comp shocks and a nice lift not sure how much this is new to me since i was into rice rockets but found a new hobby. my question is can i put a 383 block to replace my 318 and what do i need can i use the same tranny or will i have to change it or is there a different engine that would be better i would like to keep it carb. any help would be appreciated thanks.

nope the 318 is a la. block a the 383 is a rb. block they have different bolt pattern on trans. and different motor mounts. what i would do to get more power is find a 360 its a la.block and simple in and out. the 383 makes ok power but if you want a big power jump find a 440 or hemi.on my ramcharger i pulled the 318 and installed a bored and stroked 360,488 gears 39in. Irocks the 9 1/4 rear has held up so far but the 44 front has had new carrier axles and hubs.

The 383 is a B series block not an RB. Both the B and RB blocks do share the same Chrysler big block bell housing bolt pattern, which is different than the 318 LA series bell housing bolt pattern.
You can make very similar power between both the 318 and the 360. Go shopping at Edelbrock and get heads, cam, and intake manifold.
The 318 is no slouch but the 360 will make just a little more low-end torque.
