I-Beam Shake 99-2009 chevy trucks

Chevy has done themselves in with me. I have always had Chevy trucks, from a 79 shortbed, 84 85 87 4x4 blazers, 97 extended cab 4x4, and now a 2007 Crewcab 2500hd shortbed. I still have the 85, 87 blazer and the 2007. I bought this 2007 truck with only 2 miles on it. With factor 245 ties, you really don't feel the shake, you think its just the road or stiff suspencion. Now you own this thing and decide to increase your tire size. I'm not talking 36"or bigger I'm talking 265. Now you have this constant shake in your seat that is annoying at first but as a daily driver it becomes a problem. After a road force balance by Chevy, 4 front end alingments(2 by chevy in one month and different dealerships) the entire front end looked over, the tranny looked over, the drive shift, the rims checked for roundness and the rear axle. I even paid extra to have the runout on the hubs. Basically the entire truck is within chevy specs. After +$2000 of my own money I finally fine out through a service advise at a dealership which is closing that this is I-beam shake. Chevy has put out a tech memo out on it. It covers trucks from 99-2009 and not all trucks have this problem. Sounds like a defect to me. The way I was told to correct this problem was to put 500lbs in the bed. Now this has been going on for about 1 year. I have 52000 highway miles on it the trade in value sucks. I have gone all the way up in a dealership and all they want to do is give me trade in value. I work with a guy who is friends with some of the mechanics at one of the chevys I took it to and his buddy told him Yeah There Is A Fix, they have body mounts that remove 80-10% of the vibration. Guess what it is only covered under the bumper to bumper 36000 mile warranty, Another $250. It seems if you want your truck fixed at a chevy dealership you better know someone who works there. I'm going in on the 19 of july 2009 to have these bodymounts put on. Don't expect the dealership to tell you about these mounts or problem they enjoy wasting you time and money. I would advise staying away from chevy in my opinion. My sister has a Ford rides prefect and my buddy has a dodge rides perfect, both 250 2500 crew cabs shortbeds 4x4 like mine. I am going to send a letter to corporate. Does anyone know of a lawsuite that is going on about this If so please reply.

I have the same problem. It is terrible around 40 mph and 70mph. Isn't it just insane how GM keeps making trucks with the same problem and they only put out service bulletins leaving their customers with no recourse. No recall, no effort to fix the problem, even in future models when they know they have a serious issue. I've gone through the same circus trying to figure out what the heck was shaking so badly. There are more service bulletins out there on these trucks than you might think, and for serious issues. For instance the fuel tank venting system takes on water during rainy driving, the topper of them all is the inevitable manifold gasket leaking problem inherent in nearly every Vortec motor in all of their cars and trucks. There's even a "service bulletin" for the tail gate cables breaking. I don't care if Bertha the behemoth is sittin' on that thing, it should hold. If you can't get tail gate cables right go out of business already. Their sheet metal on the rocker panels has been rusting out in the same place for decades. I'm on my third 4L60E transmission by the way. I have heard some people have actually had their money returned to them by GM after buying these model year trucks. After reading their stories about years of negotiation and filling out forms I don't think it's worth the hassle. Go Professional Grade!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. I have the body mounts now installed. Do not waste your money it makes it worse. They are suppose to be isolation body mounts, instead it feels like they welded the body directly to the frame and I put an additional 1000 miles on it thinking break in period. I'm going to put some alumin rims on it. I taked to a guy at a gas station who had the same truck and he said that some of the factor rims where making his truck shake and when he replaced them it went away. He did not have our shake but if it cures some better than what I have now, maybe I can trade it in.

You won't believe this. I now have some $500 rims not each but for all four and aluminum. They removed about 90% of the shake. I figure the other 10% is tire wear oddly and stiff suspension. Leave it to Chevy to have poor spec designs or they need to fire all those so called mechanics that told me that the rims and tires where good. Also get rid of that road force balance machine. So that would be two road force machines, about 7 employees, 2 service managers, and 1 General manager from 3 dealerships. Oh I'm wrong only one store now the others closed I wonder why. Get rid of the factor steel rims first if you have this shake. It still gets that I beam shake but it is only for a little bit not continuous.
