I have an 83 cj7 with a straight six four in lift 33 in tires it is my daily driver. I have a new job where it requires me to drive four to five hours every couple of weeks. needless to say the old jeep is not the most reilable thing to drive on long interstate trips, I have been driving my wifes car for now but can't do that forever. Also I have a four year old daughter, who loves the jeep, another baby on the way and two dogs, thats a jeep full. I have been thinking of a powertrain swap possibly the whole nine from novac or do I buy a new tacoma that will carry the whole fam? I will keep the jeep even if I do decide to get a new vehicle. The jeep misses some modern convienences needs new seats and several other things but with a new powertrain it would be something I could take on a long interstate trip right? I know it will still ride like a jeep.  Some insight would be greatly apperciated.

Sounds like you already made the decision. Keeping the jeep and buying another vechical for work and family. Keep jeep as hobby and back up ride. I don't know about the Tacoma do they have room for car seats in back and someone in the seat in front. I can't put my baby's car seat and have someone in the front seat no room unless they are 5'5" Kids grow plus friends, dogs get fat and wifes pack alot. SUV are great and can tow. If jeep breaks you can still drive to work.
