I'm new to jeeps but have experience with muscle cars. I have a nice 1976 CJ5 but it has an open rear diff, can anyone tell me how to remove the spiders so that I can weld them up? I want to do it like a "fozzy" locker not welded to the carrier. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Umm.. just like any other axle I guess... pull the axle shafts, then the cross pin, then the spiders will fall out.

if it doesn't have the clips and it has bolts holding the backing plate to the axle u need to take them bolts off then u can pull the axle shafts right out and then just pull off the brackets over the bearings on ur diff and it will fall out if it has the clips on the end of the shafts u got to take them off then theyll slide right out if its anything to ya i welded my diff up with nickel rods and put beads everywhere something moved and right after i put it in i pulled and jerked out an old cedar stomp out and that thing held wonderfully and still does  hope this helps ya
