I need some help finding the right shocks for my truck.  I have a 89 F150 with a custom lift and I'm tired of getting beat to death because the shocks are the wrong lengths.  One won't extend enough and the next one won't compress enough.  Does anyone have a chart that list all the shocks available and there lengths and mounting style?   I found one but it looks like it has not been updated in a few years and does not have all the shock manufactures on it.  Any help is much appreciated.

Don't really know just looking for ones that fit properly.  Not looking to spend alot either, planning on lifting the truck again next year.  I had black diamons on my last truck years ago and loved them.  Had there lift to and wish I could get my hands on another one.

First you measure from the two point where your shock would mount at rest. then find out how much travel each direction. If you have leaf springs I just measure the drop in the supension this also usually covers for the compression of leaf spring. That will give you the travel. Say the drop is 4" you need a shock that can travel at least 8". pretty much the same for other lifts.

I know how to measure the shock length and travel I need.  My problem is I can not find the tech data on the shocks out there to find the one that matchs up with the travel of my suspension.  When I look up shocks for my truck only a few brands have the travel lengths of the shocks posted.  And they will not work on my truck.  I need to find one that is not suppose to be for my truck but has the proper mounts.  Here is one chart someone has put together that I have found but it does not list all the brands out there and I think it is missing some shocks for the brands it does have.  Do you know if there is another chart out there that I have missed that is up to date?

I was not questioning your tech knowledge. You said you have a custom lift. Some custom lifts have shock relocation brackets and I have seen them not installed. Sounds like your problem one direction longer than the other. Typically you can call the manufacture of the brand lift and they can tell you the shock needed because of the lift height. If it is truely custom lift you may need to relocate one piont. Brand of the shock you said did not matter. With that web site you should be able to find one, out of the 996 shocks listed.
