i have an 84 chevy silverado 1/2 4x4 with a 700r4 tranny and 305 engine. my question is this, it shifts to fast, someone said to adjust the tv cable, i dnt know if thats what it is or not and im not sure how to do that anyways. the tranny was used when i put it in but it was rebuilt less than 500 mile previously and it came out of a S-10 4x4 with a 4.3 engine, i did you the torque convertor from the S-10. the trans its self shift good and does not slip it just shifts faster than i believe it should what do you think it is?

Does it shift too soon, RPM-Wise, or too Hard? The adjustment on the cable is critical to the life of the transmission. If, and that is, If... the cable is mounted to the carb/throttel body in exactly the same way that it was in the original configuration, it should be adjusted as follows.....that is, if i remember right..push the little button in on the part that holds the cable where it is mounted to the intake manifold, and shove the plastic adjustable part all the way in. Then, while holding that button in, open the throttle to wide open. The aduster will slide out. Set it so the cable just becomes tight at wide open throttle. I think there is a little room for adjustment at this point as to how you want the trans to shift, just dont go very far from the snug at WOT poition either way. From what i have learned in the past. if the cable is not mounted to the carb in such manner that it doesnt have the same travel as it did in the original transmission, you might never get it to shift right, and it could self destruct.
