Hi, Im new here and am looking for some info on and advice on swapping out a 6.9l diesel to a 460 gas. Heres the issue. I have an 85 F250 4X4 4 speed manual with 6.9l diesel The engine/truck has about 145,000 miles on it and it has a blown head gasket. It also used quite a bit of oil before the headgasket went. I think it was aver a gallon every 3000 miles, but runs like a top. The truck is too got to not do anything with, but am hesitant on overhauling the diesel. I might get away with headgaskets, but since it used oil, i dont want to go to that much work and not overhaul it. From what I have found, even doing the work myself, not counting machine work, the diesel is very expensive to overhaul. I was thinking of finding a 460 and putting in it, but now I cant realy find any info on wether or not the 460 will bolt up. I read that the 460 uses a different bellhousing than the 6.9l diesel, but cant realy find much info on it. Then,so,can you use a 460 bellhousing on the tranny that is in the truck with the diesel, and what about the flywheel and clutch. It seems to me, that if i need all those parts, i need to find a junk truck with a 460 motor and manual trans, to make it economically feasable, otherwise i should just bite the bullet and overhaul the diesel. Any suggestions out there from you ford gugues?
