On my 2001 HD2500, I am currently running 265/75R16 tires with only a torsion bar adjustment from a factory stance. I would like to gain more height but not a great deal more width. I have considered simply going to 285s but they run enough wider that they usually require trimming the air dam.

Not much room in there is there? You can turn the torsion bars up a bit more to fit the tires you want but you will need an alignment after. I know of a friend that has done this to his 2007 HD2500 Duramax and he actuall has 305/75/16s on his and had to trim just a little off the front but it still looks factory and the ride isn't all that much stiffer than what it was like without the crank on the torsion bars.

What he said... you'll either need to trim or go with a different wheel.
