Bronco Problem

I went to town on an 89 Bronco. I was going to leave town but when i went to crank it up the starter didn't disengage. With the engine revved and the starter spinning i turned the key back and pulled it out of the ignition and it didn't cut off. with my buddies quick thinking we popped the hood and pulled off the ground and cut the engine off. we were able to get it running right to get home. At home i tested it , it did it one more time. I figured it to be the starter solenoid. I pulled off the cable to the starter and switch it off and on with the key a few times and it worked perfect. I connected the cable and it hasn't done it again and its been a while. Has any body else had this problem or does anybody ave any suggestion about what it is? I don't feel like it will leave me stranded or anything but I would like to fix it. thanks

and that was the first time? well i would say leave it alone if it seems ok now. and if it does happen again when you get home pull the whole starter and bench test it. should give you more of an idea of whats going on. it sounds like it is the solenoid sticking on.

its hard to say what the problem is,you should check your ignition switch and wires and your engine wiring harness and be prepared to buy a new starter,if you have a bad wire or a short you could lose your wiring harness, its alot of amps going to the starter, I just had a short like that happen on my 71 Bronco i was lucky it only destroyed the wiring harness
