I have a jeep cherokee. I can not remember the year. I would like to take those axles and put them onto my '96 dakota. Could I use ford coils and the plates that bolt to the frame. To hold the front axel. How expensive would this get for doing this job.
Next question is that I have a '91 dakota with a 318EFI. I would like to put that in to my '96 dakota to replace the 3.9 V-6. How big of a job would that be. And would I be looking at rewiring my truck to incorporate the 318.

And the V6 will put out as much HP as the 91 V8 will put out.

why do you want to dissmember the cherokee? if it runs and drives its a very cabable rig and would need little mods and fabbing to be a streetable and wheelable rig. but, to each there own i guess. depending on the year of the cherokee, the dakota and the jeep may have a similar rear axle, meaning both might be the chrysler 8.25. in fact, a buddy of mine has an 88 dakota, and we compared drivetrains one day. i own a 99 cherokee. the rear axle, T case, t case gearing and such are the same. he has differant axle gears and his truck is IFS. if you want to do the IFS conversion, it mite be worth your while to find a stronger axle for the front. it mite be worth it if its the high pinion dana 30 buy if you plan on lots of wheeling, bigger than 33s, and lockers, a stronger axle may be a better option for you. good luck.
99 cherokee sport with a costume front bumper. 7 inch optronic lights 30 x 9.5 goodyear wrangler GS/A tires and TJ flares modified to fit my Jeep
