Hey guys, I am trying to decide on a good, all-purpose off-road vehicle. I would like something that is both beach and mud capable. Lastly, I want something that has a little room. I believe the Samurai and some of the smaller Jeeps are out. Based on my budget, I have narrowed it down to an older Jeep Cherokee or K5 Blazer - am I missing something else? I have about $5,000 to spend. What do you recommend? Besides models, what years should I consider? I live out in VA.

I would recomend a early 85-91 K5 with TBI I picked one up for just over $100 after my fule costs to haul it home, it ran great but the body was ruff and it made a awesomr mudder, if you want to go a diffrent direction try a suburban of the same vintage.
if it ain't dirty, you ain't doing it rite, RNC club motto

I love my 85 blazer. Ride 5 deep (You and some girls), cooler in back plus tools, straps, and they are cheap and 350 are easy to fix and get parts for. I picked up one in great shape with a/c still working for $1500. Added +10" lift and 38" swampers square tube bumpers(home made), 456 gears, welded front and rear, braided brake lines, four core rad, rolled on bedliner for around 5,000. It sucks to have no room for people in back. I perfer carb

Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Blazer, Bronco, Explorer, Suburban, Expedition, Ram Charger, um... there are a bunch of 4x4 SUV's for about $5,000.
