Junkyard Lifts???

I've heard from a couple people that you can use different suspension parts off certain stock vehicles to lift cherokees, is this true? Could I go to a local wrecking yard and find usable parts to get lift out of my Jeep without making the vehicle unsafe? If so what parts are compatible with a 2000 XJ?

Can't say I've ever heard of this, but I'm sure if there is a will there is a way.
What you'll need is a coil spring with the same length, or longer, and diameter off of something heavier like a truck or SUV. And a set of leaf springs that are about the same length and same width with a little more arch, maybe off of like an S10 or Ranger.
I have no clue how much lift this will actually get you, or ride quality, but it may work.

I actually first heard of this when I asked a buddy about a rather beat up XJ by his house and he said the guy lifted it using parts off from a dodge dakota and some other truck but I can't remember what one specifically. Overall the XJ looked pretty clunky but it did make me curious as to what could be done.

I want to say I've actually heard of XJ guys using S10 leaf springs, so that part may be true. I'd do a little more research before though before pulling the trigger on it.

Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna even bother. All I want is a 3" lift so I'll just spend the $450 and buy a rusty's leaf pack kit.

dakota springs, and s10 springs will work. i do believe the s10 spings give you 3.5in of lift. not sure on the dakota springs. as for the front, well i hear ZJ front coil from the V8 model will lift it about 2in. ride quality will be a little harsh. check this out: http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/home_brew_budget_boost.htm
maybe you could go with the s10 springs in the rear, with longer shocks and brake lines of coarse. and the ZJ springs with coil spacers up front. again, with longer shocks. but you knew that already. hope this helps. good luck.

I think I'm just gonna go with a rusty's 3" spring pack kit, it's only $450 with shocks, leafs, and coils. Probably save my 2" spacers and shackles so I can add them on when I can afford to go bigger.

Well I can tell you now that it's good, a buddy of mine bought it last year and hasn't had a complaint. All he suggested was to get new lower control arms and brake lines for more articulation. I'll eventually do all of this but for now I gotta work on getting my Jeep back in good working condition, I screwed alot of stuff up when I broke through some ice last winter and sunk it in a huge water pit.

i hear that stock YJ rear brake lines will work for that much lift. they are longer and are the same as the XJs lines. as for the the control arms, its still worth it to go with the rustys kit. i cant seem to find any other 3in lift that compares to price as rustys. i like the fact that you get replacement springs with the kit. and coils. instead of blocks, shackles, or add a leaf. or a combination of. and they dont cheap out with spacers up front either. other kits are double that for the same items. only differance is some come with lower control arms.

Yeah I've looked all over and it's the best deal I've found so far. I know it's a good kit cause I know someone that has it so that gives me a little more assurance as to the quality.

i put the link on a site called usajeepowners.com since the guy that runs it is an ASE certified machanic. he said it looked like a nice kit and said nothing negative about it. he also is a diehard jeep guy so i trust his opinion. you just gave me one more reason to get it.
