samurai suspension?

I just got a 1987 Suzuki Samurai and I was wondering what kind of suspension would work the best? Also I have heard that the jeep suspension parts would work best. The Samurai has already had the rear leaf springs removed and a se of coils have been installed but seems a little iffy cause the springs are just sitting in some cups welded ont the axle and would like to know what would be the best (and cheapest) way to keep them in place. I do have access to a plasma cutter and welding machine (stick and mig) and know how to use them. The fornt still have the stock leaf-springs but I am considering replacing them with coils for a softer ride but will wait for further input before I decide. I don't know what kind of setup i should put on that would work with my budget since I'm a college student and don't get a steady check. The sammy will be taken to the beach, a daily driver, and might need to see some mud from time to time. Its still has the 1.3L and the previous owner that installed the coils also put a set of lower gears in the tranfer case and 35" tires. ANY input would be greatly appreciated!
