A little history,..  I have had this truck for many many years (since 1985 and my oldest son has shown interest for me to restore it so he can drive it to high school.  Original motor and tranny was removed by previous owner who put a 383 chrysler in it back in the 70's .  These have been removed and sold but  I still do have the orig transfer case.  My question is what year range of 283/327 motors and 4/5 spd. OEM transmissions can I install to get her back on the road?  Really not interested in installing a 350 motor as I'd like to stay sort of true to what was originally avalable and adding hp not a priority for my 16 year old first time driver.  Also, what do I need to be careful of during installation?  Obaining a 4/5 spd. overdrive and a block with mounts for an air confitioning unit would be neat but not necessary.  Also conversion to power steering another option I'd like to consider.  Any and all help is appreciated as I know someone has likely been down this road and learning from experience would be prudent..  Thanks....

69-71 for the motor, the trans was the same all the way through 86, I might make a suggestion to upgrading the t-case to a np205 or np208 to gain the gas milage of having a 2 high range,
if it ain't dirty, you ain't doing it rite, RNC club motto

when you look for your transmission you have to be careful as you need the look at the splines on your transfer. the Munici 4 speed did come with the 10 spline, 28 , and 32 splines on the output shaft, as did the 350 automatic, other wise every thing should just bolt right up.
dont dicount the 350 they're easier to find, and built right you will still get decent gas milage with a couple preformance parts
