I have a 350 tbi, completely stock. When i'm driving it will run just fine, but sometimes the throttle blips, check engine light comes on and it runs really rough. Thing is i can shut it off, wait 2 seconds, start it up and runs like a champ. I'm thinking a fuel pump but i dont wanna spend the money when im not completely sure.
Thanks in advance!

When you get the check engine light, you need to capture the code. That will lead you in the right direction. Go to Howell Engine Developments website, their tech site has instructions on how to read your computer. It burried in the back of the installation instructions under troubleshooting.

The Howell instructions tells you how to read the flashes from the check engine light to get the code without the reader. I prefer a code reader myself, have 2 of them.

check your intake plenum to tbi gasket, some times you can replace the thin, 2 dollar gasket, and save the day. i've had that issue with a few fords and one chevy.
if you still have trouble, when it happens again, pop your hood and touch all your relays, (not my fault if you get burned, lol) if one is super hot, thats your problem circuit. now, it could be your relay, and it could be something in that relay's circuit. so, if your fuel pump relay continues to get hot, try switching it with another relay in the truck(saves $15). if the same issue happens with the new relay, it could be your fuel pump. if another issue arises, it was your relay. i'm going on the assumption that you have an electronic fuel pump.
do you have dual tanks? you could have a fuel line that is bad, or a loose clamp somewhere sucking air. does it only have an issue on one tank?? maybe your switch valve is having issues.
you could also have something chunky in your fuel tank. i had a burban came to the shop with new everything, and your problem. we found all kinds of trash in his fuel tank and when the trash plugged his pick-up screen and tube, it would throw a code because it didnt have enough fuel pressure. shutting it off let the trash fall back to the bottom of the tank and it would run ok for a while. running a quart of 91% isoporophyl alcohol every 6 months in a full tank helps to dissipate the moisture and prevent rust in your tank. (it also reduces emissions) i hope you find the problem.
if your tank is full of trash, you can clean it yourself by taking a bucket of rocks, a buddy, parts solvent, and see-saw the tank back and forth, the rocks help to knock trash off the tank walls. be sure to count the rocks, though. dont leave any behind

Hey thanks for all the info, i recently took a trip to the snow to do a bit of snow wheelin and got about two minutes on a trail and it bogged and died. When i tried starting again it would crank with no problems but would not think about turning over, isn't electrical, so most likely fuel. the fuel gauge was also stuck at the bottom where as you turn it on acc and it shows fuel level. finally put gas in the other tankand started right up. My conclusion is just really bad luck... or a bad fuel pump lol. so i'm swapping that out this weekend. Once again thanks for all the info!

get a code, my 91 was doing it and it was the ESC, got a code 43. Replaced the module and it runs like a champ. The ignition module does not always just die as seems to be the common perception. Also i replaced the 02 sensor and it brought the mileage up about 3 mpg. Problem mine was having was like it would just jump ignition time. and the CEL would come on. when it went off it would run fine for awhile again. Not saying this is your problem, just throwing my experience out there.

Yeah problem is the check engine light goes on intermittenly. I'll drive down the highway and it comes on and it loses power like the computer is flatlining and then it goes off and runs just fine. But i am workin on the problem and will let cha know what the definite verdict is, Thanks!
