engine swap?

hey guys so i have a few questions. i am looking at building and engine over the summer for my 96 k1500. my 350s getting a little run down and id like to upgrade it. i have two options that ive been milling over in my head: one i was thinking of picking up a 350 from the junk yard and turning it into a 383 stroker. one is this possible and how would i do it? and two would it blow my stock tranny with the added power?  my second option is posibly building up a 454 and dropping it into my truck. now would i have to modify my truck at all to do this swap? will the engine fit in my engine bay and will that also hook up to the stock tranny behind the 350?
