how to make my inline 6 perform to its best

i got a chevy inline 6. any suggestions what i can replace on the engine to make it perform way better? its not a truck, its a 1977 chevy nova. but i was hoping somone could help me with this.

Just an idea, but for the cost to make that 6 cyl perform better you could probably find a good used 350 v8 and be happier with the performance .
