Hey guys
New to this form
so i have a 1987 GMC cabillero and i've been lookin for a posi for it for a long time now. well yesterday i went to the local salvage yard and after about 4 hrs i found a chevy 1500 with a 10 bolt posi. i dont know the exact year but it is a 4.3 vortec 2 weel drive. i need to know what spline axles will most likely be in it, and wether or not it'a an 8.5 in ring gear.
also my car has a fore link suspension system and the upper control arms attach to the top of the pumpkin. is the pumpkin in this differencial cast iron, can i weld the upper control arm mounts to it? if not how can i connect the upper control arm mounts to the top of the diff where there suposed to be attached.
thanks for any information you can give me Neil

The 10 bolt rear you took out of the 1500 pick up is a 8.5" ring gear. It has 30 spline axle shafts. 1988 and newer 1/2 ton 10 bolts have 30 spline axle shafts. The 1987 and older were 28 spline. That is both front and rear. 1988 - 1991 Suburbans and full size Blazers were still the old body style with the solid front axle.
I would recomend you just go buy a new limited slip/locker for your original car 10 bolt.
