kyled... he has not logged in since aug of last year..

things that need to be checked for THAT much tire.....

wheel bearing assemblies..  checked for ANY play.. jacking up the suspension and seeing how much the tire moves when a prybar is levered under it..  this usually takes 2 people... checking the ball joints at the same time...  they could be really worn.. factory versions don't have zirc fittings so they can be greased...

next is to be sure the parking brake is set..  key turned just enough to unlock the steering wheel.. and the drivers window down..   standing beside the truck.. or since this one is really tall.. with ones head out the window..  rock the steering wheel back and forth about 5 or 6 inches.. just to the limit of any possible free play while looking out the window at the top of the left front tire in relation to the fender... is the truck body moving left and right when the steering is moved.. then the track bar has an issue..

because the front suspension is out on 4 forward facing control arms.. the front end is kept from moving side to side by the track bar..

next is to have somebody sit in the cab and rock the wheel back and forth the same amount. 4 to 6 inches..  laying under the front of your truck.. look at the ends of the track bar... the rubber bushing at the passenger side of the axle could be worn or softened up...

the driver side end that fits into a bracket on the frame could be worn.. could be loose...  i have also found the brackets loose on jeep models.. as some of those are bolt on brackets..

if your truck is raised... you may need a track bar with more offset... to kinda restore the angle..

there is also a brace plate that bolts across the bottom of the frame horns.... and has a bearing assembly to slip over a custom pitman shaft nut... so the bottom of the steering box is locked tight and reduces the reaction of the steering box to the force of the end of the pitman arm pushing the steering linkage to turn the tires.. or keep them straight..

the track bar keeps the front end centered under the truck.. and has to react to the input from the steering movements..

when the rubber track bar bushing at the axle end wears or gets soft  it will allow some movement out of phase with the steering input. this results in the death wobble...  as the axle is moving one direction. steering the wheels in the other direction and moving the axle that direction and then yanking the wheels the other direction ... increasing in amplitude each time...

wait.. what...

yep...

\----\ results in the steering linkage pushing the front axle housing the other way.

/----/  the steering linkage then moves the wheels back the other way..

\----\   each time more and more..

play in the pitman shaft to steering box can also provide enough play to introduce death wobble..

the bar across the bottom of the 2 frame rails to the pitman nut  and careful examination of the track bar for any play at all..
