Hello,
I am a broke HS student heading off to engineering school next year. I want to know if it would be beneficial to install a 3" body lift and 2" add a leafs with adjusted torsion bars to achieve 5" of total lift to fit 33 or 35" tires. Or would it be better to scrap the dana 35 TTB up front and do a leaf sprung SAS to a Dana 44 front end and do a spring over axle conversion on the stock 8.8 Ford axle back end to level out the truck? I am on the FIRST robotics team at school and my mechanical engineering background along with my friend's and mentor's fabrication and welding abilities should allow for a leaf sprung SAS conversion to go fairly smoothly (aside from funds). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wrong on many levels, First the truck has coils not torsion bars,came with a 4.0 v6, focus on basics, maybe rocksliders, a2"coil, add a leaf, good shocks, skid plates,and, basic recovery gear (Highlift jack etc). The model 35 ttb/ 8.8 are good, maybe add warn hubs and a lockright or similar. Make it reliable and go wheel it.

I'm pretty sure the 96 came with IFS not TTB.

Yeah '96 is the SLA IFS.

The earlier TTB axle is great offroad. The SLA, not so much.

If you have the 5.0L drivetrain, you also don't have true 4WD with low-range either, it's fulltime AWD. Unless you're also up for swapping the T-case out for something with low gear, I don't see much point in doing a SAS on that truck.

Crank the T-bars and throw on a bodylift and some 33s if you just want to beef up it's appearance a little. Do be prepared for it to feel like a little V6 afterward if you don't also change the gear ratio in your axles for the bigger tires.
