Transfer case issues

1985 Chevy Suburban 1500, 350 Engine, 700R4 Tranny, unsure of transfer case, believed to be stock.
Problem is this:
When I shift into 4wd high, My shifter falls down, back into 2wd, If I hold it, 4wd is engaged and working fine, stays in 4wd low, no issues.
Is this just an adjustment? or is my T-case fragged?
