i have a 1972 chevy k10 with a rear axle that needs to be replaced. I want to take advantage of this to swap in a 14 bolt. my concern is how to ID a 14 bolt that should make my swap the less complicated and also, my truck currently has 3.08 gears. yes they are high gears but with my sm465 4 speed manual i feel that if i go for lower gears i will suffer greatly on highway speed. should i just stick with another 12 bolt with 3.08 gears or will 3.73 be ok on highway with the sm465.
this is my daily driver

Gm rpo codes: gu4 3.08 gu6 3.42 gt4 3.73 gt5 4.10 gm made a 6 & 8 lug semi float 14 bolt and several full float styles. Either way its going to be a lot of work swapping ring gears and front hubs. What's wrong with the 12 bolt?
