Fuel Pump?

My 1995 F50 HD 460 bb 68,000 miles has some issues with the fuel i believe. When my fuel level is below 1/4 tank it will start to chug every few miles. it will last anywhere from a couple seconds to a couple minutes. When this happens the truck has absolutely no power, trouble keeping up the speed limit, and when you try to accelerate it just gurgles and miss' and it stinks horribly. As long as I keep the fuel level above 1/4 tank it runs fine.

I know most of your answers...keep it above 1/4 tank...save your post. I want it fixed.

I pulled the tank and took the pump out. It looks like it was replaced already with an airtex. SO...did it really go bad again? or am I looking at another issue?

The rear tank doesn't work either. Has power to sending unit but pump is shot.

SO...I've heard it could be the pump on the frame..but...if the pickup pump in the tank is weak that could be why its only when below 1/4. Plus the gas guage is off 1/4 tank..Some kind of coincidence?

Any Help would be appreciated. Ill also have pics of this beauty soon.

There shouldn't be a fuel pump on the frame rail for that year. There should just be an in tank pump for each tank. I would try changing the fuel filter, before assuming the fuel pump is bad.

Also, does the fuel gauge read a quarter tank higher than actual or a quarter tank lower than actual?

Higher. 1/4 tank is empty...well slightly under.

Are you just running out of gas?

1st off...i'm not stupid.
2nd..if that were the case I would't be able to drive it for miles while it does this. When i had the bed off, I looked into the tank when it did run outta gas. There wasn't a drop in the tank and it still read close to 1/4.

So I bought a napa brand pump n put it in. It fired right up and seems to run better than ever. BUT....a mile down the road it started to act up again....so...I'm gonna do what I should have from the start....fuel filter. Ill post back tomorrow after I do the fuel filter and brake lines n let everyone know how it goes.
