2wd to 4x4 conversion

hello, new here and have a question. I have a nice 89 2wd gm shorty step side that I blew the motor out of, I also have a 3/4 ton gm 4x4 reg box that the body is falling off of....question  is putting the drivetrain and susp. from the 4x4 into the shorty do-able? I have an ok shop at my disposal and a go get'em attitude fairly handy and love a good challenge  has any1 done this before??
