I'm building a Camaro 4x4 on a Blazer frame with a 14 bolt rear, i set up the gears a while ago but it wasnt driveable yet so I forgot to put Diff fluid in it. i just got it driving and didnt even think about it and drove it maybe a 1/4 mile if that and in and out of our shop a few times with no fluid and the rear end was acting weird and thats when i opened it and found there to be no fluid, so i'm just wondering how damage that could have caused? my gears have a little bit of wear which looks not to be horrible but i am wondering if the bearings are still alright after that bit of driving? they don't turn as easy but when you pour fluid on them they turn fine with not much noise. i dont want it to lock up on me while driving so i want to make sure everything is still okay. any help would be appreciated.

I have never had personal experience but I asked around and looked around and its kind of a two sided debate... My friends say you could probably get away with a few miles if you don't put it under heavy load... I read a lot of folks saying that no distance is to far to drive without fluid... If I personally did this I would probably fill it give it a few test runs take it easy for a while if it works out great if not kick myself for not springing a hundred and twenty bucks for a bearing kit... I'm notorious for bad decisions though... I try to make what I got work then spend when I have to...
